Harvest 2022 saw some major changes at Meerendal Estate with lots of new equipment and different intake procedures.

Under the careful guidance and hands-on approach of French consultant, Arnaud Tremblais, our Viticulturist and Winemaker, the Meerendal harvest team brought low yielding grapes to the Cellar. The grapes were further cooled down before being processed and taken to natural ferment in stainless steel and concrete tanks. All the grapes were handpicked early in the morning, at optimum ripeness and transported in small crates.

The aim was to make natural Wines, full of fruit flavours and with minimum intervention. Fermentation was slowed down with low temperatures to make elegant Wines.

After six weeks of early mornings, long hours and dedication, the 2022 harvest was done and the Wines were all in various stages of fermentation.

On April, 14 the first Sauvignon Blanc and Pinotage Rose Wines were bottled, both exceeding our expectations.

The Red Wines were slowly ageing in French Oak Barrels, waiting to be bottled in 2023.

A truly exceptional harvest, 2022 Meerendal Wines will be some of our best made on the Estate.
